This machine is more than adequate for many driveways in Ontario. The starting recoil system brings a smile to my face as there is no need to chuck 300 to 400 more for the ignition start, the coil system works in less than two gentle pulls. As for power, the HS724TA has been able to handle two to three foot drifts, hard compacted snow that the plow leaves at the foot of the driveway and wet heavy snow with little trouble. Though small adjustments must be made for the type of snow that has to be thrown to get the most out of the blower. The transmission is a dream, smooth and responsive to your commands without that grinding hard to move shifting thud you normally get when selecting foward or reverse. The auger is top quality steel and constructed well, it can chew hard snow and ice up to three inches thick making it look like powder coming through the chute, although this is not good for the life of the machine. One final note on this quality device, always respect its power. I purchased this for my father-in-law to clear the foot of the drive after the plow goes by thinking it will help with the strenuos task at hand, no fault to the machine as it does the job with ease, however; if you don't take the time to explain the awesome speed this little Honda has, a Senior may find themselves being pulled along by quite a heavy force, keep the engine speed high and have the transmission at a speed they can handle. It usally takes the same amount of time or some times longer with the blower so dress warm and stay alert. If the driveway entrance becomes hardened by compacted snow and uneven from tire trails this snowblower will think its a bob cat and try to climb even with the tracks which are not so easy to maneuver, thus the 4 rating for performance. All in all, it is a top machine and highly recommended. Have the dealer thourghly demonstrate the features. I have had mine for four years with no problems, I am told with the correct maintanence, it can last past twenty.
Upgrades/Accessories: Skip the cab as it sucks in high winds, use a ski mask with goggles, its the ultimate in high winds and blinding snow.
